Hi Mike,

Tethering on iPhone is currently frowned upon by AT&T, but I've been doing it for a year (without hacking the phone). I've also noticed that while I pay for about 5GB's per month on my standard iPhone service, I've only used 7GB's total for the year without trying to be cautious when tethering. AT&T's worry about tethering is unfounded and silly.

While some of the iPhone Office document vendors are working on PPT editing, I currently get around this with Google Docs. Not the ideal solution, but when you have to edit a PPT, that's one approach that works pretty well with a broadband connection over iPhone's Safari browser. Plus, as a GMail user, the integration between GMail and Google Docs is getting better which affords the opportunity to manage the round-trip editing process in a collaborative thread much easier.

I agree - iPhone in context with your two key business requirements is not ideal, but not insurmountable either. ;-)

Good write Bill. My issue with the iPhone when I purchased the Blackberry Bold was that I occasionally need to work on powerpoint docs and then send them back up to a sales team when traveling. With the Bold I can tether via bluetooth to my Mac or I can even upload files I may have directly from the phone. The "free" tether is particularly handy when doing a presentation in someone's office without having to get a connection or carry an additional wireless connection contract.

Has the ability to upload and tether changed with the iPhone.
